Egg Chair Special Offer

Egg Chair Special Offer

Originally designed in 1958 by architect and designer Arne Jacobsen for the lobby and reception of his wider SAS Royal hotel scheme in Copenhagen, the Egg chair is acknowledged worldwide as one of the triumphs of Jacobsen’s legendary career. Jacobsen was the first to create a strong foam shell, prototyping the sculptural form himself from clay in his garage and it is, arguably, his most recognisable piece of work.

Egg Chair - unique Tal R celebration edition

We are celebrating this masterpiece of Danish design in two ways. Firstly, we will be displaying a unique Egg chair in a patchwork of denim fabric created by the Danish-Israeli artist Tal R. This piece was produced as an edition of fifty in 2008 to celebrate the chair's 50th anniversary and forms part of an 'Egg Trail' across the country. Each chair is uniquely constructed from a variety of new and vintage fabrics, sourced from locations all over the world - an example of Tal R's style, known as ‘kolbojnik’. Visit the store to discover this unusual piece.

"I wanted to make a chair that tells a multitude of stories. The pieces of cloth in the patchwork are full of life. You get the feeling that here's a piece from a youngs girl's dress, and here's a a piece from an old, worn curtain. I wanted to integrate as many stories as possible into the design icon." - Tal R

Secondly, we have a very special offer in partnership with Fritz Hansen. Order an Egg chair in the upholstery of your choice and get the matching footstool for free.

The chair is available in a wide array of fabrics and leathers, and can be combined with a metal swivel base in a choice of five colours: satin aluminium, silver grey, warm graphite, brown bronze or black. Contact the store if your preferred fabric is not shown online.
