Cassina
Cassina
Cesare and Umberto Cassina established their eponymous company in Meda, Italy, in 1927. Since, Cassina has grown to become one of the most important manufacturers of premium quality designer furniture in the world. Launching the concept of industrial design in Italy during the 50s saw a shift from hand-craftsmanship to serial production, working side by side with internationally acclaimed designers such as Gio Ponti, Vico Magistretti, Mario Bellini, Philippe Starck and Piero Lissoni.
The "Cassina I Maestri" (Cassina Masters) Collection was created in 1964 with the acquisition of the rights to produce designs by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, including the model 4 Chaise Longue - one of the most widely recognised designs of the 20th Century.
Following the renewal of its collaboration with Fondation Le Corbusier, the heirs of Pierre Jeanneret, and Pernette Perriand-Barsac, Cassina has restored the original French names of Collection Le Corbusier / Pierre Jeanneret / Charlotte Perriand.
As a statement of authenticity in the run up to the 50th Anniversary of the Cassina i Maestri Collection in 2024, these newly restored names are an acknowledgement of the complex and fascinating story behind Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand’s collaborative endeavours.
