Brand Focus: New from Flos
In this journal post we focus on the renowned Italian designer lighting brand Flos and highlight some of the new items that they have recently produced. Some are brand new designs, some are updates on timeless classics and some feature new finishes on popular lamps - all represent the innovation, quality and flair for which Flos is famed.
Firstly, the Smithfield pendant lamp has been augmented with two new glossy finish colours: vibrantly rich red and green. It has also been updated to include integrated LED light sources suitable for dimming and control systems such as DALI.
The iconic Snoopy lamp designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in 1967 is now available with a glorious orange gloss painted shade, joining the green and original black options. The Diabolo lamp - so named due to its similar shape to the Chinese balancing toy - was Achille Castiglioni's final project with Flos in 1998; it is now presented in three glossy colours: cherry red, beaver brown and white. The upper cone houses an ingenious pulley system so that the lower cone can be extended or retracted smoothly to just the right height.
Marcel Wanders' whimsical Skygarden pendant lamp has now been made in a petite 400mm diameter. Available in the same finishes as its bigger brothers: black, white, rust or gold and featuring a similar plaster bas-relief inner decoration.
A new design by Vincent van Duysen, the Oblique desk lamp features a revolutionary combination of LED light source and lenses that cast an asymmetric beam of illumination across a work surface. It also features a charging station in the base - USB or USB + wireless - for your phone and other devices, and is available in six on-trend colours. The Bellhop floor lamp by Barber & Osgerby extends the concept of their small portable lamp to an uplighter perfect for creating an ambient glow.
Last Order is a small, portable and rechargeable LED table lamp designed by Michael Anastassiades, ideal for an outdoor table on Summer evenings. Another Castiglioni design, Lampadina, has been updated with new colours for the lampholder: violet, orange, turquoise, green, black and white.
Coordinates is a technical innovation utilising an LED light source within fine extruded aluminium tubes and optical platinic silicone (main image at top). Created by Michael Anastassiades, a series of interlocking linear LED luminaires take their formal inspiration from the mathematical precision of the Cartesian grid and offer a broad array of set configurations. Shown here are the wall lamp and the S3 suspension lamp.
