Bascule Lowback & Bench

The Bascule Lowback Lounge Chair and Bench, designed by Studio OE for Vitra, combines relaxed comfort with innovative movement. Inspired by the French word for “seesaw”, the Bascule chair features a concealed tilt mechanism with automatic weight adjustment, responding intuitively to changes in body weight. With no levers or fixed positions, the chair moves smoothly from an upright seating position to a deeply reclined, almost horizontal angle, supporting the body with minimal resistance. Its generously tailored fabric cover wraps around the chair like a jacket, drawing on fashion-inspired techniques to accommodate the extensive reclining movement. The removable cover is available in a wide range of colours and can be replaced, cleaned or exchanged to extend the chair’s lifespan. Bascule includes an integrated, height-adjustable neck cushion for enhanced support. Paired with the matching Bascule Bench, it creates an exceptionally comfortable lounge solution.
