Vitra New Launches - Autumn 2026

Bascule

The focus of Vitra's new season launches this Autumn is Bascule, a new lounge chair by the young Berlin based designer duo Studio Œ. Combining a softly draped, tailored cover with an innovative weight-compensating mechanism, Bascule supports the body from an upright posture through to a deeply reclined position with effortless fluidity. Its distinctive comfort, service-friendly upholstery concept, versatile typology and attractive price point make it a compelling addition for residential settings as well as soft contract and lounge environments.

Designers Lisa Ertel and Anne-Sophie Oberkrome founded in 2021 Studio Πin Berlin. The ΠРa ligature formed from the initials of their surnames. Studio Πdevelops projects grounded in material and context, understood as active components of the conceptual approach. Design is viewed as an open-ended process transforming insights and observations from everyday life into meaningful, precisely articulated solutions. They have been working with Vitra since 2025.

The Bascule lounge chair combines the relaxed aesthetic of a loosely fitted fabric cover with an innovative Vitra seat mechanism that offers automatic weight adjustment. Bascule is the French word for “seesaw” and alludes to this mechanism: concealed within the chair, it responds seamlessly to shifts in weight and supports every movement with seemingly no resistance. The chair follows the body from an upright angle all the way to a deeply reclined, almost horizontal position.

For this extraordinary range of motion, Studio Œ designed a generously cut cover that drapes over the structure like a jacket. Tailoring techniques from the world of fashion, developed for ease of dressing and freedom of movement, were transferred to the chair. The starting point was a novel mechanism devised by Vitra’s engineers – one that allows the transition from sitting to reclining and back again in a natural flow of movement and with unprecedented simplicity. Vitra’s idea of using this mechanism for a new lounge chair that simultaneously questions conventional standards in upholstery construction was met with enthusiasm by Studio Œ.

The upholstery concept avoids adhesives and relies on separable materials with the highest possible proportion of recyclable content. All elements of Bascule can be repaired or exchanged if needed, and the cover is easily removed for professional cleaning or replacement. The options are: high or low back, with a choice of high or low seat height on a four-star metal base in blasted aluminium, black or chalk with or without matching ottoman, or oak sled legs lacquered natural or black (one height) with or without matching bench.

Bascule will be on display in store in October.

Panton Cube Animals

Verner Panton designed his Panton Cubes in the 1970s, using them to build a wide variety of figures. The modular system consists of square frames that are assembled to form cubes, which are then linked with clips and fitted with coloured or chrome panels to create patterns and volumes. Yet the magic lies not in the construction itself, but in what can be achieved with it: sculptures, figures, abstract objects – the possibilities are limitless.

In collaboration with Verner Panton Design AG, Vitra has developed a re-edition of this design classic and is launching the Panton Cubes in kit form for four different decorative animal sculptures: a charming Duck, a majestic Flamingo, a Cat whose silhouette oscillates between grace and abstraction, and a Giraffe whose elegant height suggests a miniature work of architecture. Each kit contains the elements needed to construct the respective animal figure – but the possibilities extend far beyond these, allowing for countless other imaginative combinations, making a perfect gift idea.

The four Panton Cubes kits are each available in a duo-tone colour combination or with a chrome finish. The duo-tone models reflect Verner Panton’s vivid palette and were defined in collaboration with Verner Panton Design AG.

Stock of Panton Cubes will be available in October.

Anagram Club

The modular Anagram sofa system has been expanded with the addition of new dimensions and new accessories: Anagram Club, which enables spontaneous adaptation to changing needs. The platform modules can be combined with other modules on all four sides and fitted with backrests, side panels and attachable tables. Thanks to a click mechanism, these elements can be freely positioned anywhere on the platform and rearranged in a matter of seconds. Its compact dimensions and upright seating geometry make Anagram Club modular sofa ideal for informal exchanges in offices, lobbies and co-working lounges as well as for moments of private retreat in libraries, hotels and open office environments. In residential settings, the sofa appeals to those who appreciate slightly firmer upholstery and clean lines.

Mynt Soft and Mynt High

Vitra has now expanded the Mynt portfolio to include the new Mynt Soft and Mynt High models. A dark veneer is now also available for the seat and backrest. In addition to the update, a study was conducted with the Institute for Biomechanics at ETH Zurich.

The study concludes that the Mynt chair significantly promotes dynamic sitting compared to a conventional synchronised mechanism. On average, the proportion of active sitting increased by almost 50%, accompanied by a higher frequency of movement. The average duration of phases of inactivity was shorter, while that of the phases of movement remained unchanged. In addition, clear differences were observed in the use of seat and backrest angles: the Mynt chair was used more frequently in a forward-tilted seat position and with a backward-tilted backrest. These findings demonstrate that the chair’s mechanism can substantially influence sitting behaviour.

Mikado

The Mikado Low lounge chair and Mikado High barstool are the latest additions to the Mikado product family. Featuring the same ingeniously simple mechanism and exceptional comfort as the existing Mikado models, the two newcomers extend the range of applications beyond dining rooms, home workspaces, offices and restaurants to include lobbies, bar areas and other such settings.
