Fritz Hansen x Technics
Danish furniture manufacturer Fritz Hansen and Japanese audio brand Technics have launched a collaboration to celebrate two design icons: the Kaiser Idell Luxus table lamp and the SL turntable - a collaboration in light and sound.
The collaboration considers how light and sound define the character of a space, where light defines mood, sound evokes emotion, and minimalist design connects both. Together, they define a space through light and sound. Both special editions of these designs are finished in a coordinated deep burgundy matt finish, and are available in very limited numbers.
Christian Dell was a German silversmith born in 1893. Having studied at the Saxon college of arts and crafts in Weimar, he became the foreman of the metal workshop at the Bauhaus from 1922 to 1925. From 1926 Christian Dell began sketching 'ideas' for lamps, mainly for the German lamp factory Gebrüder Kaiser & Co - hence the eventual name of the collection, Kaiser Idell: 'idea' + 'dell'.
The renowned Kaiser Idell lamp is characterised by Dell’s ability to create elegant design with the basic geometric hallmarks of modernism: shapes like the sphere, circle and cylinder. Today, the Kaiser Idell is widely recognised as a symbol of noble Bauhaus design, exquisite choice of material, and precise engineering.

Technics is a Japanese audio brand established by Matsushita Electric (now Panasonic) in 1965. In 1971, Matsushita released the Technics SL-1100 for the consumer market. Due to its strong motor, durability, and fidelity, it was adopted by early hip hop artists. The SL-1100 was used by the influential DJ Kool Herc for the first sound system he set up after emigrating from Jamaica to the US. It was followed by the SL-1200, which was adopted by New York City hip hop DJs such as Grand Wizard Theodore and Afrika Bambaataa in the 1970s. As they experimented with the SL-1200 decks, they developed scratching techniques when they found that the motor would continue to spin at the correct RPM even if the DJ wiggled the record back and forth on the platter.

As the upgraded SL-1200 MK2, it became the favourite turntable of many DJs worldwide. A robust machine, the SL-1200 MK2 incorporated a pitch control mechanism (or vari-speed), and maintained a relatively constant speed with low variability, which proved popular. The SL-1200 series remained the most widely used turntable in DJ culture through to the 2000s and the advent of digital recordings.

The collaboration has resulted in the Limited Edition Fritz Hansen x Technics SL-40CBT direct-drive turntable in a deep burgundy finish. This minimalist design features a coreless motor for high-precision stable rotation, a traditional S-shaped tonearm, and an Ortofon 2M Red cartridge. Every purchase of the limited edition Kaiser Idell Luxus table lamp will be accompanied by an exclusive vinyl record called ‘Presence’ which features two artists who have recorded and composed original music specifically for Fritz Hansen. Oviduct creates atmospheric electronic music shaped by texture, restraint, and gradual transformation. His work treats sound as a spatial presence, unfolding through subtle shifts in rhythm, tone, and silence. Willone centres on atmosphere, repetition, and subtle rhythmic tension. Drawing from ambient and minimalist traditions, his compositions unfold gradually, shaping space through layered sound and measured progression.
