CH24 Wishbone Chair Soft Colours
The very first model Hans J Wegner designed exclusively for Carl Hansen & Søn in 1949, the CH24 or Wishbone Chair, has been in continuous production since its introduction in 1950. With a form that is uniquely its own, the back and armrest are shaped into a single piece. To give stability to the steam-bent top and ensure comfortable support, Wegner developed the characteristic Y-shaped back support for which the Wishbone Chair is named.
As a highly accomplished cabinetmaker, Wegner designed the chair to rely entirely on traditional joinery techniques, using mortise and tenon joints that are glued and assembled by hand. Therefore, wood finishes are popular as the natural beauty of the grain is allowed to sing. But for those with a love of colour, the CH24 Wishbone Chair on a beech frame is available in soft sheen lacquer. The palette of nine rich colours was enhanced in 2022 by the London-based designer Ilse Crawford with nine more tones that reflect elements of the natural world, such as barley, seaweed, slate and terracotta - all now on special offer at 20% off.

The picturesque colours celebrate plants, minerals and the soil that make up the raw beauty of the Nordic landscape, and they work both individually and in interaction with each other.

Carl Hansen & Søn uses only water-based paint for their furniture, ensuring durability, minimal environmental impact and a great working climate. Seven coats are applied for the Wishbone chair, which has a five-year warranty. All eighteen lacquer colours are available with either natural or black woven papercord seats.
