Vitra Home Stories for Spring - New Product Launches

World-famous Swiss manufacturer Vitra is synonymous with ground-breaking 20th Century design. A family business for over 80 years, the campus at Weil am Rhein, Germany, has grown to house the Vitra Design Museum by Frank Gehry amongst its numerous buildings by renowned architects. Today, in combining technical and conceptual expertise with the creativity of contemporary designers, Vitra seeks to continue pushing the boundaries of design. Each season, Vitra releases product updates and provides inspiration by showcasing fresh, unexpected ideas for the home. This spring, Vitra has launched Mynt, a versatile and adaptable new chair by Erwan Bouroullec, and Courier, an elegant home desk designed by his brother Ronan Bouroullec. There are also updates to Tyde 2, to the Tip Ton and Uten.Silo - both now manufactured with 100% recycled plastic - and a focus on outdoor dining as the days get longer and warmer.

Mynt - Sit Differently

Today people no longer sit in the same chair for lengthy periods of time and instead often share chairs with others. With this in mind, Vitra worked with the designer Erwan Bouroullec to develop the Mynt chair. This innovative chair brings an appealing home-like aesthetic to the office and the dynamism of a task chair to the home – and thus defies conventional categorisations.

As with cycling, climbing stairs and countless other everyday pursuits, the body remains in a state of active balance when sitting on Mynt thanks to its patented mechanism that prompts the user to continually perform a range of smaller and larger movements. Mynt not only provides a new seating experience, but dynamic sitting has also been shown to have a positive impact on physical health and well-being.

The patented mechanism is the core element of Mynt. Activated by human weight, it tilts backwards or forwards in response to shifts in the sitter's weight and position. The seat moves independently of the backrest and the resistance automatically adapts to the user's weight. The only thing that has to be adjusted is the height.

Mynt can be refreshed and adapted to new requirements as needed. The seat and backrest come in a choice of two materials: wood veneer or recycled polyamide made from 100% post-industrial sources, which can be replaced or exchanged for the other version as required. The four-star base can be simply converted from glides to castors – and vice versa – by users themselves. For softer comfort, the seat and backrest can be fitted with upholstered covers. Thanks to zip fasteners, the upholstery can be easily removed for cleaning or replacement.

Courier - a desk like a typeface

In addition to his industrial design projects, Ronan Bouroullec is also an artist, producing intricate drawings in which he repeats intuitive sequences of lines by hand with a Japanese felt tip brush. The contours of the Courier desk can be read as an expression of this artistic verve, but also testify to Bouroullec's flair for form and composition as well as his technical expertise: the desk effortlessly combines two high-quality materials, wood and aluminium, to create a distinctive yet unobtrusive whole.

Viewed from the side, the desk's silhouette recalls a serif letter design – hence the name Courier, which is one of the best-known serif typefaces.

Tyde 2 - Home Office

The sit-stand table system Tyde 2 offers multiple configuration and equipment options, making everything possible from a single desk to a large bench. Single desks, double clusters and conference tables can be transformed into platforms to offer solutions for concentrated tasks, dynamic teamwork and meetings. And Tyde 2 fulfils a key requirement of modern workplaces: configurations can be easily adapted to changing situations and needs to ensure maximum flexibility. This is particularly true with the height-adjustable sit-stand tables on castors.

Tyde 2 is characterised by clean lines combined with rounded contours, giving even expansive structures an understated aesthetic - the updated barrel-shaped top is especially suited to the home office. Cable management is neat and orderly thanks to a cable channel and other electrification features. Additional elements and accessories, such as lamp holders, monitor arms or screens, can be freely positioned and attached using the sophisticated Tyde 2 bracket system.

The dining area is the social hub of most homes: where household members gather to eat, entertain guests, work, play, talk and laugh. Wherever it is located - usually indoors, but also outdoors in spring and summer - it is important to find the right chairs and tables for every use and setting.
