Aram presents Mattiazzi

Aram will be exhibiting at Clerkenwell Design Week (22-24 May 2012) for the first time this year and, as the UK agents for Mattiazzi, we are very pleased to be presenting a selection of new products they unveiled only last month at Salone del Mobile in Milan.

In 1979, brothers Nevio and Fabiano Mattiazzi set up their company in Friuli, in the eastern part of Italy; an area with a long and rich tradition of handicraft and woodworking.

The brothers have a particular philosophy which makes Mattiazzi unique.  The traditional craft approach to their design work combined with the latest in CNC machinery means the quality of their furniture remains sharp and accurate yet still shaped and finished by hand.  They are also committed to environmental sustainability and this can be seen from their use of locally sourced wood through to powering their machinery via solar panels on the factory roof and even heating the factory in winter time using wood-waste discarded in production.

Their reputation and quality of craftsmanship has begun to attract some of the best known designers to work with them.  Starting with Nitzan Cohen, they are now producing designs by Sam Hecht (Industrial Facility), Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, and Konstantin Grcic.

Konstantin Grcic feels that working with Mattiazzi took him all the way back to his professional roots when he trained as a cabinet maker.  Konstantin says that his Medici Chair is ‘inspired by the material, by the machinery and, of course, by the skill and craftsmanship of the people we worked with’.

This was really a fascinating subject, I am very lucky to have the ability to come to your weblog and I will bookmark this page in order that I might come back one other time.

It looks very simple and very boeruulloc. The one thing that lets it down is the lighting design. It seems as though the downlights are placed randomly and have not been thought about too much.Maybe it’s a matter of time for the project or budget?? Campana’s had erco in the Berlin store which was much more impressive space in terms of the light. I would expect more from the Bouroullec’s as they seem to have a pashion for good light in the past. Work with a lighting designer next time guys.
