Barber Osgerby

Barber Osgerby is a London-based industrial design studio founded in 1996 by designers Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, after studying architecture together at the Royal College of Art. The studio worked initially from the Isokon workshops in Turnham Green and the association here with plywood led to their first furniture piece, the Loop coffee table, shown at the London Design Fair in 1997. It is now part of the V&A Museum permanent collection.

They have designed an array of different products over the last three decades for companies such as Glas Italia, Magis, Flos, B&B Italia, Vitra and Knoll International. In 2001 they co-founded architectural practice Universal Design Studio and a decade later added Map Project Office, a design consultancy. In 2007 they were awarded the status of Royal Designers for Industry and in 2013, having designed the award-winning Olympic Torch for London2012, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby were both given the OBE for services to the design industry. Many furniture projects have also won awards, such as the Tip Ton chair and the Tobi Ishi table.

Barber Osgerby's thirtieth anniversary is being honoured with a major retrospective at the Triennale Milano opening for Milan Design Week 2026, which highlights the influence of the studio on the history of European industrial design, cementing the studio's pre-eminent position in British contemporary design.
