Born in Venice on February 24 1931, Luciano Vistosi grew up on the island of Murano where his family owned glassworks that produced industrial products. When his father died in 1952 he stopped his studies and, together with his uncle Oreste and brother Gino, founded the new Vetreria Vistosi with the aim of creating products that were linked to more current research in the field of design - working with some of the greatest designers of that time. Together with designers such as Aulenti, Zanuso, Magistretti, Sottsass, Peduzzi Riva, Dal Lago, Meronen Beckmann and Mangiarotti the production concentrated mainly on the lighting sector.

Known for its "The Human Light" philosophy, Artemide is nowadays synonym with design, innovation and made in Italy. Artemide’s products are much more than highly refined design objects, ensuring a top technical performance – they are objects born from man’s experience to satisfy man’s needs. Since the 1990s, with the launch of the The Human Light philosophy, promoted by Carlotta de Bevilacqua, Artemide has changed the way to conceive and develop its products. The guiding idea was to start from people’s needs in terms of light, and understanding first and foremost how to respond to individual needs in the different spaces and stages of life.
