Sizes vary from c. 23cm (large) to c. 14cm (small). The imagery of these masks formed an intrinsic, historic part of the Embera and Wounaan shaman's rituals. Today these traditional ceremonial masks are decorative pieces handmade by indigenous Indian women from the 'chunga' (black palm) tree. Wild animals or imaginary beings, Embera artists are inspired by their environment and by their beliefs, through which they bring to life a craftsmanship unique in the world. Hand made in Panama, these are individual pieces - NB: there is only one of each of these masks.
