Concealed within a forest of evergreen pine trees and built out of a rocky outcrop above Alta Lake in the Canadian mountain resort of Whistler, the Rock is an award-winning private residence comprised of a main house, a guest house and an outdoor pool set across a series of landscaped levels. For its design of the contemporary mountain retreat, Gort Scott Architects referred to Frank Lloyd Wright's sensitive approach to challenging topography – 'No house should ever be on a hill [...]. It should be of the hill. Belonging to it'.

With living spaces as expansive as the mountain views, Aram Trade was approached by the London-based architecture practice to assist and advise on furnishing the vast residence. Fostering intimacy and warmth within the majestic new-build, Aram supplied elegant furniture designs – including pieces from Fritz Hansen, Miyazaki Chair Factory, Vitra and Zanotta - working alongside Mabel Law, the consultant designer who put together the main furniture specification and sourced, in addition, a number of original twentieth-century pieces for the private client. Mabel was a pleasure to work with and her vision was integral to creating this stunning interior scheme.

As the furniture continues to bask in the site's natural beauty, since the project's completion in 2018 it has gone on to be awarded Best Private House at the Wallpaper* Design Awards 2022.
