One of the earliest steel pieces by Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe in 1927. The form is thought to be a modern derivative of 19th century iron rocking chairs. Mies integrated his understanding of materials with his aesthetic ideas to create a classic of modernist design. The large arc of the frame and the rattan seat back and arm covers give the object its timelessly elegant character and, just as importantly, allow for a high-degree of sitting comfort. Designed in 1927, made by Bigla of Switzerland, purchased in 1973.
