Aram celebrates the Bauhaus centenary

Aram celebrates the Bauhaus centenary

For the 2019 London Design Festival, Aram Store celebrates the Bauhaus centenary with classic designs from the era, now produced by Tecnolumen, and contemporary work by New Tendency.

Founded in 1980, German brand Tecnolumen champions the production of Bauhaus design. Its first product was the Wagenfeld table lamp, often called the Bauhaus lamp. Designs by metalwork students of the famous design school were added to its collection, amongst them work by Marianne Brandt, Gyula Pap and additional lighting by Wilhelm Wagenfeld.

Marianne Brandt Sterling Silver Teapot 1924

This teapot is a part of a tea and coffee set, designed by Marianne Brandt in 1924 whilst attending the Weimar Bauhaus.

Wilhelm Wagenfeld Lamp from 1924

This table lamp is often named simply 'the Bauhaus lamp'. Admitted to the Bauhaus workshop in Weimar in 1924, Wagenfeld designed the first model of this lamp as his solution to an assignment given to him by Moholy-Nagy.

Graduate of the Bauhaus University in Weimar, Manuel Goller is the founder of New Tendency design studio in Berlin. Inspired by contemporary sculpture and the production process, many of the company’s designs evolve from production and construction methods. Natural and recycled materials such as steel are chosen for sustainability. Forms are functional, angular and geometric, reminiscent of those produced at the Bauhaus school in the 1920s and early 30s.

Meta table and December lamp by New Tendency

The Meta side table is one of New Tendency's signature pieces and well suited to all living spaces. Consisting of a series of arranged, powder coated rectangular and circular shapes, Meta's appearance changes from delicate and thin, to substantial and full depending on the viewing angle.

December is a handcrafted floor lamp. Lighting up the dark, the lamp provides warm illumination and a comfortable atmosphere supported by the circular geometry and design vocabulary. The cylindrical stand offers stability and also storage tray for a book or cup of tea. A composition of three components – a body of a cylindrical stand, a rod and on top, a flat circular lamp head – made of aluminum parts combined with a crafted shade and LED light. All parts are powder coated with a black structured surface.

In The Aram Gallery, Studio Truly Truly will present a solo exhibition that reflects on its creative process, and explores ideas for the future living space.
