6 for the price of 5 Wishbone Chairs

6 for the price of 5 CH24 Wishbone Chairs by Hans J Wegner

Danish furniture designer Hans J. Wegner designed the world-famous CH24, popularly called the Wishbone chair, in 1949. The people at Carl Hansen and Son soon realised how visionary and trailblazing this young designer's simple designs were. In return, Wegner admired the skill and dedication of the craftsmen at the factory. This laid the basis for a long, rewarding partnership. Today, Wegner's family and design firm manage the designer's legacy but the close stimulating partnership has been carried on and has also made it possible for Carl Hansen & Son in recent years to rediscover and introduce new pieces of furniture designed by Wegner.

Making a Wishbone Chair involves 100 separate manual tasks Wegner designed the chair to be beautiful and functional but not easy to make. The back legs are steam-bent into a curve that tapers to join a semi-circular steam-bent back rest. The delicate taper of all the legs tested the limits of serial production. The joinery was difficult - even a small mistake would compromise structural integrity - but the 100 seperate manual tasks resulted in a strong, lightweight chair.

The Wishbone Chair in lacquered colours To celebrate the Wishbone Chair's 60th Anniversary, Carl Hansen issued a series of celebratory lacquer colours and paired them with a white papercord seat, alongside the various wood finishes with natural papercord. We are offering 6 of any combination of chairs for the price of 5 until the end of October 2012. The offer will be applied as a discount in the shopping basket when six chairs are chosen.
