About this designer: Eileen Gray
Eileen Gray
Eileen Gray was born in Ireland in 1878. She grew up in London and was one of the first women admitted to the Slade School of Art in 1898. She moved to Paris in 1902 and after training in Japanese lacquer work she quickly established herself as one of the leading designers of lacquered screens and decorative panels. During the 1920s and 1930s she became one of the leading exponents of revolutionary new theories of design. She worked closely with many of the outstanding figures of the modern movement, including Le Corbusier and J J P Oud. One of Eileen Gray's last tasks in the early 1970s was to work with Zeev Aram on the introduction of her designs onto the world market. In 1973 Eileen Gray granted the worldwide rights to manufacture and distribute her designs to Aram Designs Ltd, London. Aram holds the worldwide head license for Eileen Gray designs, and is the only UK source for the authentic products. Aram has granted a license to produce to ClassiCon of Germany.
About this brand: Aram Designs
Aram Designs
When Zeev Aram opened his first showroom in 1964, a small, white space on London's Kings Road, he might as well have landed on the moon. But, here was the work of Castiglioni, Breuer, and Le Corbusier, for the first time available to the public to buy and put in their own homes. Zeev closed his Kings Road showroom in 1973 and moved his business to Kean Street in Covent Garden, where he still oversees Aram Designs - concentrating on his own designs as well as running a very successful contract business supplying to architects and interior design groups. In 1975, after several years working together, Eileen Gray gave Zeev Aram and Aram Designs Ltd the Worldwide licence to introduce, produce and distribute her designs. A licence we are still honoured to hold to this day.

Details

Originally designed between 1922 and 1925, this is the first authorised re-edition of this most iconic of Eileen Gray's designs. Each panel is lacquered by hand, layer upon layer, in a process that takes several weeks. Each layer is first allowed to dry completely, then sanded by hand and finally polished to a high, immaculate sheen. A nickel-plated steel framework supports the panels and solid bronze shims, spacers and end-caps add the finishing touches. The Brick Screen is so much more than a piece of furniture or a room divider. It is undoubtedly a work of art and a valuable collector’s item.
