Born in Munich in 1932 and studying industrial design there, Sapper has worked for a variety of large companies including Mercedes-Benz and IBM. Perhaps his best known work is the Tizio lamp, designed for Artemide which won him a prestigous Compasso d'Oro award in 1979.
